It was an awesome weekend full of larger-than-life tricks, flips, and more because Monster Jam 2024 rolled into Washington DC and brought the fun!
Monster Jam 2024 Recap
Capital One Arena was filled with rumbles, roars, and cheers as eight drivers competed to win over the heart of the crowd. The Arena Championship Series East features eight skilled athletes fighting for the championship while putting on a spectacle, constantly innovating and always entertaining. The first female series champion, Krysten Anderson was in command of the legendary Grave Digger, while 2021 Rising Star award winner Armando Castro grabbed the bull by the horns in El Toro Loco. 2023 Arena Racer of the Year Coty Saucier kicked things off in Dragon and the rest of the field was also eager to take their trucks to new heights.
Monster Jam has always been a family-friendly good time. I remember growing up and seeing Grave Digger dominate the circuit and sitting in tires the size of a house for pictures. When I had my own family, I couldn't wait to take them, especially the younger one who was born being obsessed with anything with wheels/engines. Fast forward to now and it has been 9 years since we last saw a Monster Jam show. Anticipation was high and these drivers did not disappoint.
From donut competitions and two-wheel skills, to FMX bikes and the always popular freestyle competition, Monster Jam 2024 was just as exciting as ever. This also marked the first time we experienced being able to vote for our favorite competitors as they went all-out battling for the Event Championship. During the halfway point, FMX riders came out to show off their skills. X Games fans, this is for us. These guys flipped, dipped, and did some insane tricks midair. As with the trucks, the audience was asked to vote on their favorites to crown a winner.
But the main event of course was the 12,00 pound Monster Trucks. Coty Saucier took an early lead with his fast qualifying lap but Armando Castro in El Toro Loco and Krysten Anderson in Grave Digger were having none of that. Those two went head-to-head all night to see who could impress the crowd the most. I might be biased but Krysten killed it in Grave Digger. From her cradle rock to playfully bumping another truck, she just made the night memorable. Despite the fact that he should not have won the donut competition– Raminator was robbed– Armando did some sick tricks in El Toro Loco including a flip!
Whether you were raised on Monster Trucks or just looking for a family-friendly night out, Monster Jam is not to be missed. If it’s coming to a city near you get your tickets ASAP and snag some Pit Party Passes too for a chance to get up close with these behemoths!
Important note: Remember to bring protection for your ears. Foam ear plugs are available at most stores like Target and Walmart. Noise cancelling headphones are also a great option. If you forget, you can buy light up monster tire looking ones at the show. I'm sure your kids won't be that upset if you have to.
