Loki Season 2 Episode 5 Easter Eggs & Breakdown
The bright light fades and Loki is alone in the TVA. Everywhere he goes, no one is to be found.
He starts Time Slipping again. An automated voice calls out TVA Code 1229- fail safe mode initiated.
Loki winds up in the room with the timeline monitor. Another Loki is in there, reading the TVA manual. He calls out but disappears before they can speak. He then makes his way into the room again and picks up the TVA manual. Loki again appears behind him, calls out hello but disappears.
The entire TVA begins to unravel like Victor Timely did at the end of the last episode. Loki Time Slips away before he can be unraveled as well.
A clock can be heard ticking over the Loki theme music. At the end, each letter disappears until only O is left.
Casey is breaking out of Alcatraz on a branched timeline in 1962. He is with two men named Clarence and John. In history, three men escaped Alcatraz in 1962. Their names were Clarence Anglin, John Anglin, and Frank Morris.
Loki appears but Casey doesn't recognize him. Casey's name in this timeline is Frank.
He time slips again. First to the McDonald's where Sylvie worked, then to Piranha Powersports, and finally back to the TVA and the time theater where Mobius showed Loki his life story in season 1.
Branched timeline New York City 2012– Hunter B-15 is Dr. Willis. Loki appears briefly before slipping away again. In Marvel comics, Verity Willis was a friend of Loki who had the power to see through any lie.
Branched timeline Cleveland Ohio 2022- Mobius is working at Piranha Powersports selling, you guessed it – Jet Skis! He is called Don and he is a single father with two sons.
Branched timeline Pasadena California 1994- OB is going by the name A.D. Doug. He is the author of a book- The Zartan Contingent, a science fiction book that no one wants to buy.
Zartan Contingent is not referring to the GI Joe villain. Rather it is a clever nod to a group in the comics that have a special connection to The Eternals. Xartans were created by the Celestials, the same ones who created the Eternals. They have the power to change the shape of their body and also look like anyone they want to. Where they differ from Skrulls is that if they copy someone with superpowers, they can use those abilities.
This isn't the first Eternals reference as Kingo has already had an easter egg in the second episode of this season of Loki.
OB goes back to his home, which looks an awful lot like his office at the TVA, complete with random items and an old computer. Loki appears and OB believes his story, saying that it's like one of his book characters has come to life and needs his help. It reminds him of what happens in the Sons of Yoren.
On the cover of the Sons of Yoren there is a picture that resembles Loki and Sylvia looking out towards an orange sun.
He is also a theoretical physicist at CalTech. OB helps Loki using the TVA Manual to build a TemPad. Loki slips away again, ending up at Mobius' house.
OB appears using a time door. It's been 19 months since he last saw Loki but in that time he built a TemPad. From there he goes to find B-15 and Casey. They all return with him to OB's house. Mobius asks if it's safe for the worm hole or quantum realm.
Then Loki goes to see Sylvie at McDonald's. She is the only one who recognizes Loki. Sylvie takes Loki to a bar, inside is an arcade game called Zaniac. Brad's voice can be heard when it starts up.
Sylvie at first refuses to go back with Loki. But as she is sitting in a record shop, reality starts to unravel. Using her TemPad she escapes her timeline and joins the others at OB's house.
Everyone unravels around Loki. But then he learns to control his time slipping. It's not about where, when, or why. It's about who. Loki, using his new control, brings himself back to before the Loom melted down.
Loki Season 2 Episodes 1-5 are now streaming on Disney+.
