What If Episode 2 Easter Eggs & Breakdown
It starts on Morag in a familiar moment. It is the time when Star-Lord has appeared to take the Orb from the temple. But unlike in our universe, in this one T'Challa is Star-Lord.
Also unlike GOTG Vol. 1, this Star-Lord is well known throughout the galaxy. Korath has not only heard the name but is a huge fan boy. We learn that this Star-Lord is like space Robin Hood who steals from the powerful to give to the powerless. After a fight, T'Challa decides to make Korath a Ravager.
T'Challa leaves the temple with an unconscious Korath and the Orb. He is met by more of Ronan's forces but Yondu makes quick work of them.
They are stealing the Orb to help The Krylorians. The Collector's assistants have all been Krylorians.
Flashback to 1998. A young T'Challa yearns to get out into the world. Yondu had outsourced the kidnapping of Ego's spawn Peter Quill to Taserface and Kraglin.
Back in present day, Korath wants to know what is T'Challa's favorite mission. He mentions a bank heist on Tarnax IV. In the comics, Tarnax IV is the capitol world of the Skrulls. The next is the Ankaran Resistance. In the comics the planet Ankara is rarely mentioned but home of the Sligs. Finally, he wants to know how he stopped the Mad Titan Thanos.
Thanos appears and is now a member of the Ravagers team. T'Challa showed Thanos there were others way to reallocate the resources of the universe. Sometimes the best weapon os a good argument.
The bartender is Drax the Destroyer. In this world, his home world was saved by T'Challa who stopped the Kree invasion. His daughter and wife are also alive,
Another familiar face also shows up and is very fond of T'Challa, a non-robot looking Nebula. Although more whole, she still has no love for Thanos. T'Challa reveals Thanos is now a gardener. This is a nod to Farmer Thanos from the comics and where we see him in Endgame. She reminds T'Challa he also carries the past with him. Around his neck is his Black Panther necklace.
He never returned to Wakanda because Yondu told him it was destroyed. Now his mission is to help save others' homes.
Nebula has a job for the Ravagers. They are to break into Tanaleer Tivan the Collector's fortress and steal the Embers of Genesis. It is something that can terraform entire ecosystems with only an ounce.
Korath is shocked to learn Nebula is Thanos' daughter. They both respond “adopted.” In the MCU Nebula is one of the adopted daughters of Thanos. In the comics it is unclear if they are actually related, although she has claimed to be his granddaughter.
They head to Knowhere, home of The Collector. The Black Order, formerly Thanos' minions, are in charge of Tivan's security.
Inside the fortress, T'Challa hides in the compartment. They tell the Collector they are there to sell him the Orb. In order to get T'Challa past Proxima, Korath and Thanos cause a distraction outside. A fight, similar the one between Drax and Rocket in GOTG Vol. 1.
Inside The Collector's Fortress are a lot of Easter eggs.
- A Rhino that looks like the ones from Wakanda.
- Alligator Loki is seen in one the cages as T'Challa enters the area.
- Cosmo the Space Dog
- Dark Elf
- Howard the Duck
- Frost Giants and Kronans (mentioned by Howard)
- Xandarian Ship
- The Grandmaster's Ship The Commodore
- The Royal Talon Fighter, a Wakanda Ship
When the Wakandan ship comes to life thanks to T'Challa's necklace, the Black Panther score can be heard. He finds Dora Milaje uniforms and a message from his father. Wakanda was not destroyed as Yondu had told him.
Nebula betrays T'Challa. Inside the cage with the other Ravagers, he and Yondu argue about the lie. Yondu claims it was in his best interest that he kept him away from Wakanda, because at his heart, T'Challa is an explorer.
The Collector is disappointed T'Challa is just a human. He asks him if he can fly or shoot lasers from his eyes. This could be a nod to the X-Men who are eventually coming to the MCU.
Heist Nebula breaks the group out of prison. The “betrayal” was all part of her and T'Challa's plan.
Using his Vibranium necklace, T'Challa is able to escape from his cell. Carina helps him by taking out Ebony Maw.
The Kronan Arm used by Tivan in the fight against T'Challa likely belonged to Korg who was a very chatty Kronan.
Tivan also has Captain America's Shield, Mjolnir, Malekith's Knife, and Hela's Headress.
Thanos takes on Black Dwarf while the others escape to the ship. Nebula comes back to help him when Proxima Midnight joins the fight. She gives several ounces of the Embers of Genesis to Black Dwarf and Knowhere bursts to life with new vegetation.
T'Challa captures Tivan in his own cage and then hands the bracelet that controls all the cages to Carina. She releases the beings held captive by the Collector. Frost Giants, Skrulls, and Dark Elves are among the beings seen.
T'Challa and Yondu escape on the Royal Talon Fighter along with Cosmo the Dog.
They all visit Wakanda.
But that isn't the only family reunion. Peter Quill is reunited with his father Ego, who has finally found his son on Earth.
