The fun, exciting, and super adorable Star Wars show for the whole family, Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures is back with an all new season full of big adventures, tricky challenges, and of course all our favorites.
Young Jedi Adventures Season 2 Review
At the end of Season 1, the Starlight Beacon was dedicated, Yoda imparted his wisdom to the younglings telling them they are destined for greatness, and Taborr was kinda unmasked. We know he is Prince Cyrus but the Young Jedi do not. However, now he is friends with Brightstar and the others which means he will likely have to make a choice between villainy or walking the path of goodness.
Season 2 picks up right where the last left off. Kai Brightstar (JeCobi Swain), Lys Solay (Juliet Donenfeld), and Nubs (Dee Bradley Baker) continue their training (complete with a new outfit) and embark on even bigger missions across the galaxy. Helping to lead the younglings on these missions is Master Zia’s (Nasim Pedrad) new Padawan, Wes Vinik (Gunnar Sizemore), and his astromech R0-M1. As they continue their training and grow in the ways of the Force, the young Jedi will travel to new planets with new and old friends and encounter adversaries like The Ganguls, who are growing in their pirate ranks.
Nubs nation rise up! Young Jedi Adventures is back with new characters, missions, lessons to be learned, and fun to be had. Along with the returning cast, fans will be introduced new villains like Captain Blackbolt (Corey Burton), a droid pirate captain who looks and acts like he's watched Pirates of the Caribbean a few times. With the recurring threat of the Ganguls, season 2 feels a bit more connected as each episode builds upon the last, but never in a way that would lose the younglings watching at home. But most importantly, we felt that our favorite Poobian, Nubs, got a lot more screen time and that's a win!
Season 2 benefits from not only the pirate storyline but also by bringing back fan favorites and creating space for even more guest appearances. First off there is the younglings' closest friend Nash Durango (Emma Berman), her plucky droid RJ-83 and her epic ship the Crimson Firehawk. You know whenever you see Nash on the scene, the crew is about to have some high-flying good times. Also popping in this season are Bell Zettifar (Marcus Scribner), a name familiar to fans of Star Wars: The High Republic, Huyang (David Tennant), Yoda (Piotr Michael), and the pirate queen, Maz Kanata (Grey DeLisle) herself. Bulcha the Hutt (the always hilarious Jason Mantzoukas) as well as a few other antagonists show how our younglings are slowly getting stronger in their abilities which allows them to face tougher opponents.
Being that this is a show aimed at young children, lessons are built into each episode that are important for the crew to learn but also serve as encouragement to those watching. From learning the importance of communication and understanding others to accepting our mistakes and what it means to be a real hero, Young Jedi Adventures continues to impart Yoda-sized wisdom that can open up the door for conversations between parents and their kids. And some of those life lessons need to be heard by the adults too– like how it is okay to ask for help, because we know that is true but how many of us actually follow through with it? Yeah don't answer that.
It wouldn't be a Star Wars show with some great action sequences, rich environments, and a little bit of mischief to get into. Some of the standout moments in this season include a trip to the Wookiee planet of Kashyyyk for Life Day and a return to Black Sire Outpost, which doubles as a game of name that place in Galaxy's Edge. Plus, a Nubs centered segment that sees our plucky blue friend try his hardest to take very special care of a found treasure.
Verdict
Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures retains the fun, excitement, and delightful tone that made season 1 a hit with families all over the galaxy. This season ups the ante just enough to grow along with the younglings watching at home. The animation and the range of movement and emotions also appear to be slightly crisper and more detailed than the previous season; however it's not something your children are likely going to notice. Whether you are a returning fan or just discovering the series, Young Jedi Adventures is the perfect entry point for your kids to the galaxy far, far away. Even without the Sith or Nightsisters or General Grievous types, it continues George Lucas' mission to teach children to recognize the good guys from the bad and inspire them to spread light in the world.
Season 2 of Young Jedi Adventures is now streaming on Disney+ and is also available on Disney Jr.
