The delightful and fun Star Wars show for the whole family, Young Jedi Adventures is returning with all new season full of big adventures, tricky challenges, and of course all our friends. I recently had the chance to talk Star Wars with a man who needs no introduction when it comes to the galaxy far, far away– Dee Bradley Baker.
Dee Bradley Baker On Nubs in Young Jedi Adventures: Snacks, Sabers, & More!
So Chigg gave me Wrecker Hunter vibes. And hearing him…I was like, oh, man. I miss Clone Force 99 so much.
Oh, me too.
Okay, so in a “What If” Star Wars kind of world, which Bad Batch member would Nubs be best friends with and why is it Wrecker and Omega?
(Laughs) Well, I myself would like to see Nubs and Crosshair.
Oh, my gosh, that's a combo.
I think you [would] get a lot of interesting comedy out of that. But I mean, Nubs is going to get along with anybody. I think Nubs is very positive, he's very energetic, but he's also vulnerable and very sweet. He's a team player. I mean, he would get along great. It would be great to have him in the Bad Batch.
So Nub seems to be kind of a creature guy like you, even if some of them try to eat him at first or he runs away. I personally hid like the whole spider episode this season. I was like, ew, I don't like it.
Oh, I love spiders.
Oh, gross. You can have them! Which Star Wars creature would you love Nubs to meet?
I want Nubs to meet a Tauntaun. Tauntauns are my favorite creature in Star Wars. I think it might be my favorite character in all of Star Wars. [Laughs] Because you meet the Tauntaun at the very beginning of the Empire Strikes Back, which was my favorite Star Wars movie and I think it was my favorite Star Wars experience. When I was young, the first Star Wars just completely knocked me out of my seat. It was like nothing that I had ever seen. It was truly something that you can't describe to somebody now because it's been around for so long. But to see that for the first time, it was a magnificent shock to my system. But that, in a way, was kind of topped by the Empire Strikes Back. That opened with riding the Tauntaun. That's the first thing you see, Luke riding a Tauntaun in that. And it was that moment that I realized that this movie is going to be even better than the last one I just saw. And that was very, very exciting to me. So at that moment, I think the Tauntaun became my favorite Star Wars creature of all because of all that it heralded, all that it indicated was coming my way over the next, you know, couple hours of that brilliant movie. So I'm going to select the Tauntaun. That's going to be my critter.
I'm imagining it now. He would love it!
[Dee then made Tauntaun noises and it was awesome. Go listen to the podcast to hear it for yourself!]
Nubs loves snacks and again, I don't blame him. In fact, he and I could be best friends just on that little fact alone. He loves all the good food. If you're inside the Star Wars world or even just visiting an outpost like Batuu in the parks, what would be your go to snack?
My go to snack would probably be some blue milk with some protein powder blended in there. I'm supposed to have a lot of protein, apparently. So I'm going to go with that because blue milk was like the original Star Wars snack.
That is true. Now the parks are like, oh, let's add in a protein.
Oh, yeah. There we go. Food should be fun.
There were a lot of great lessons sprinkled throughout the entire new season from the importance of communication to what makes a real hero, reaching out a hand to others, and so many more. What do you think is the most important one that Nubs learned that he can then pass on to the newest younglings on the show and those watching at home?
Well, I think the biggest lesson for me that Nubs or that any young person can learn is to trust yourself. It's to realize that you have superpowers but you're going to have difficulties and bumps in the road, but that you can rely on yourself and your family and your friends around you to move your life and to move your situation forward. There's good reason to be optimistic and that there's someone there that can help you if you need help. All you've got to do is ask for it.
I love the episode where Nubs found the very precious old lightsaber and they take it and they fix it up. If you built a lightsaber, what color would you want it to be?
My lightsaber, I think, would probably be blue. I like the color blue and it feels like you're on the good side. I don't want to be an evil Sith Lord, [Laughs] I want to be on the good side. So I'm going to choose blue for my lightsaber, which, by the way, you can build a lightsaber at Disneyland. I think I did once. I can't remember what color I chose, but I'm pretty sure I chose blue.
