The Acolyte Episode 3 Easter Eggs & Breakdown
16 years ago on Brendok– Osha and Mae are playing in the forest. They are both Force sensitive. Osha is sitting underneath the Bunta tree. She is using her powers to interact with a creature that is flying nearby. Mae finds her and uses her powers to harm the creature. Osha yells at her to stop.
Osha doesn't want to do The Ascension– the ceremony that will forever make her a witch. Mae is eager to take the vows.
Mother Koril finds them and tells them it isn’t safe out here. They aren’t supposed to be outside the fortress walls. Master Sol watches from behind a tree.
Inside the fortress, their Mama greets them– Mother Aniseya. She and Koril disagree on their punishment for going into the woods. They are worried that the girls might have been seen by the Jedi who have been hanging around on the planet.
Aniseya is teaching the girls about a Thread that connects all living things. She tells them that some call it a Force and claim to use it but they know Thread is not a power you wield. It is something that ties you to your destiny and binds you to others.
But instead of listening, the girls argue. Aniseya uses her Thread power on them, Mae pushes back. She seems to be the stronger of the two twins. Osha tells her mother she doesn't want to be a witch.
Ascension is about walking through fear and sacrificing part of yourself. Aniseya tells Osha the Galaxy doesn’t welcome women with powers like theirs.
Osha dreams of life outside Brendok.
The ritual begins. Mae agrees to protect the secrets of the coven and continue its legacy. She is marked with a circular symbol. Osha hesitates but agrees. Before she can be marked, the Jedi arrive.
Aniseya tells the witches to put down their weapons, there will be no violence.
All 4 Jedi arrive: Indara, Torbin, Kalnecca, and Sol. Indara tells them they mean the coven no harm. They are there because based on Republic law the witches are not allowed to train children. Aniseya reminds the Jedi that Brendok is not part of the Republic.
Osha is curious about them. But hides with her sister Mae. Koril tells the Jedi there are no children but they've been spotted.
Kalnecca speaks Shyriiwook and Osha comes out to meet Sol. Mae follows, he sees the mark on her head. The witches are worried they will take the girls, Sol says the Jedi do not take children.
Sol shows Osha his lightsaber and asks her if she wants to become a Jedi. She does. Torbin, Indara's Padawan, gets his mind taken over by the witches. But Osha wants to go with them.
The Jedi have the right to test for potential padawans. Aniseysa agrees to bring the girls to their camp tomorrow.
Koril wants them to make a move but Aniseya knows if they spill Jedi blood that would bring trouble. She then asks her what happens when the Jedi found out how the girls were created.
The witches instruct the girls to fail the test. Mae believes the Jedi are bad but Osha thinks they are good. Aniseya tells them it's not about good or bad, it's about power and who is allowed to use it.
At the camp, Mae lies and fails the test. Osha doesn't want to lie. She watches Kalnecca fix a speeder before it's her turn.
Torbin takes her blood and then her test begins. She starts out lying– a Loth Cat she calls a ship. A large Droid she calls a mountain. They know she's lying.
Sol tells her he was nervous too but he learned there were more children like him. She tells him she wants to be a Jedi. Then she tells her mothers. Mae attacks Osha.
Aniseya tells Osha her destiny isn't determined by a force. But if she wants to pull this Thread then to pull it, but not to let fear guide the decision.
Osha is packing up her stuff but Mae threatens to kill her. She sets fire to Osha's drawings and then locks Osha in the room. She finds a way out and sees Mae destroy a power reactor. The fire spreads, killing everyone.
Sol saves Osha but Mae falls into the fire.
Osha awakes on the Jedi ship. They are going to Coruscant where she will train as Sol's Padawan.
Back on Brendok, under the Bunta tree, Mae is alive.
