X-Men 97 Episode 9 Easter Eggs & Breakdown
Professor X wakes up in the X-Mansion. Elsewhere, Magneto stares at his helmet. Bastion carries his mother through the streets of deactivated Prime Sentinels, tears on his face.
With the power turned off, rioters are in the streets. Jubilee and Roberto are cornered in an alley. At the mansion Professor X's hoverchair is destroyed. Magneto puts on his helmet and begins to sink cargo ships as he draws something out of the ocean– Asteroid M. Storm and Forge arrive to save Jubilee and Roberto. Tensions are high and war is in the air.
Jean tells Professor X and Cyclops the world is going to end in 12 hours. Cyclops however is still angry that Xavier gave the school to Magneto. He wishes the Professor had given him and Jean a choice in the matter. Xavier wanted him to have a life outside of the X-Men but as Cyclops says he would have always ended back there, helping to save the world.
Rogue finally wakes up, calling for Remy. Nightcrawler is there to tell her what happened. Forge, Storm, Roberto, and Jubilee arrive back at the mansion. Forge's electronic prosthetic still works thanks to his addition of a special barrier to protect it.
Jean tells Storm they are going to relocate to the old base on Muir Island. The Earth's magnetic field is dying, they must find Magneto and convince him to fix it before it's too late.
Rogue is seen wearing Gambit's trench coat. They make a plan to split into groups but in order to break Bastion's control over the Prime Sentinels, they need to destroy the Central Command Center. Professor X reveals that Bastion is that command center and that he met with Bastion's mother when he first founded the school. She refused to let Bastion go with Xavier.
Beast and Forge are working on making the mnemonic scrambler, that shut down Jean's powers, work on Bastion and his technopath powers. Beast also suggests using the neutralizer technology on Bastion but Storm shuts that down quickly.
Magento appears outside the Mansion, with Asteroid M in the sky. Xavier tries to talk to him but Magneto is done with Charles' way of things. That way led to Genosha in his eyes, and watching mutants like Leech die before his eyes.
Rogue suit is her original look from her debut in in Avengers Annual #10.
He calls them “my X-Men” as he asks them to follow his new dream– building a home that is safe for mutants unlike Genosha. Rogue agrees to go with him, none of the others were there when Genosha fell. They don't know what it was like. Roberto leaves too.
At Muir Island they are all gearing up to leave. Cyclops and Cable have a conversation about family before Cyclops hands him a suit. Cable makes a remark about going to a circus and Cyclops says what did you expect? Black leather? This is a dig at the live-action X-Men films that refused to use the comic accurate suits and instead had them in black leather.
Professor X is speaking with President Kelly. He wants Kelly to trust him to prevent a war.
Meanwhile the remaining x-men suit up in their older suits. Storm’s new suit is the one we saw at the end of LifeDeath- Pt 2 (based on her 1975 debut in the first issue of Giant-Size X-Men). Cyclops’ looks very similar minus the hair. Jean Grey’s Marvel Girl outfit is next to Wolverine’s Brown and Gold suit from the 1980s (first appeared in X-men #139). Then there is Morph and another shot of Rogue’s original look.
Beast holds onto Tilby’s hand. She is sedated in the lab. Nightcrawler prays as Jubilee angrily burns Roberto’s information. Cable, Forge, Morph, and Jubilee lead the others out of the X-Mansion. They are ready to face whatever happens next.
As the team approaches Bastion's headquarters in the Galápagos Islands, he senses them and activates a Sentinel Army. Morph, Beast, Jean, and Cable head to the ground while Forge and Storm fight from the air. When the Sentinel's attack, Morph transforms into the Hulk.
With Jean's help, Morph can jump into the air and move around with ease. MORPH SMASH! He knocks a Sentinel's head through DeMayo's Diner- named after the show runner Beau DeMayo.
Mr. Sinister appears to fight Jean.
The other team arrives at Asteroid M: Cyclops, Nightcrawler, Wolverine, Professor X, and Jubilee. Professor X tells Cyclops they need to get Magneto's helmet in order for Charles to use his powers to restore the Earth.
Forge, Storm, Morph, and Beast are neutralized by Bastion and his forces. Jean continues to face Sinister. Cable appears and attacks her, he is being controlled by Sinister just like Madelyne was before.
Jean calls out to Scott, he can see what's happening. She tells him she loves him before it seems Cable kills her. Professor X uses his powers against Magneto but Cyclops stops him. Wolverine stabs Magneto and he then uses his powers to pull the Adamantium out of Wolverine's body.
ONSLAUGHT is coming. They really went there… For those who don't know Onslaught in short is Charles Xavier, giving into his frustrations, fused with Magneto's rage. The result is Onslaught who is an Omega Level Mutant.
