X-Men 97 Episode 8 Easter Eggs & Breakdown
Cable is practicing his shooting skills outside the X-Men mansion. Inside, Cyclops says they haven't had a chance to talk. Beast however learned that Bishop and Cable got separated in the Time Stream.
In the War Room, Cable explains who Bastion is. In his future, Bastion used the fallout from Genosha to get financing for his Prime Sentinel Program. The issue with them is that they are made with Sinister's Techno-Organic Virus, the same one Cable was infected with, which makes them hard to kill.
He has been unable to stop Genosha from happening because every time he tries he gets pulled temporally away.
Beasts mentions that the mystics at Kamar-Taj (Doctor Strange, Wong, Ancient One, etc) have spoken about absolute points, events that happen across all timelines.
Bastion is a backup android created by Master Mold. As Cyclops and Cable argue, the X-Men see news footage that Professor Xavier is alive on Shi'ar.
Roberto and Jubilee are watching the news with his mother. Dr. William Stryker is on the TV. He is voiced by Ray Chase who also voices Cyclops. Jujutsu Kaisen fans will recognize it as Sukuna's voice. Fitting right?
Back at the mansion, Jean is trying to help Rogue. Nightcrawler is also there and he helps Jean deal with what she feels about Madelyne and all the memories that aren't hers. Blood is blood. Family is a choice.
Cable's lead on Bastion's facility leads them to Harmony, a town outside Pittsburgh.
Mr. Sinister is in the lab. Valerie Cooper is also there. She calls Magneto Bastion's own Mengele. Mengele was known as the angel of death and was a nazi. Sinister claims he is using Bastion to further his mutant testing.
Magneto is hanging on the wall, shackled. His concentration camp number can be seen.
Beast has Trask in his lab. Tilby comes to speak with him. She is alone, she is done with “yellow journalism.” That's the professional term for not wanting to be a total insensitive jerk just to get a story.
Jean, Cyclops, and Cable arrive at the location in Harmony. It's not a sentinel facility, it's Bastion's childhood home. Inside there is a flyer for the Stark Expo, a robot toy, and X-Men #52. That comic is called Twilight of the Mutants.
Bastion's elderly mother is still there. The three go into his room and Jean uses her powers to see his memories that are connected to the drawings he has all over the wall. They learn that he can hear machines. His father, a janitor, was infected by something Sentinel related. Nimrod is the one who sent it and when his mother got pregnant, Bastion obtained special powers. He is descended from every Sentinel ever, from Master Mold to Nimrod.
Bastion's cohorts are there via TV: Dr. Doom and Zeno. He then takes Cooper down into the lab to show off OZT- Operation Zero Tolerance. He tells her they get all their recruits from dial-up chat rooms where the people complain about mutants. She seems horrified.
At Bastion's home, his mother shows them one of his paintings- The Final Dream. She then turns into a prime sentinel. Meanwhile at the mall, Roberto's butler, Ford also turns into a prime sentinel and attacks Jubilee and Roberto.
In the lab, Beast is using Cerebro to find brain frequencies like Trask's, what he finds is horrifying. There are many people who are being “activated.” Tilby is also one of them. She attacks Beast, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, and Morph. Morph transforms into Juggernaut but Tilby stops him easily.
Nightcrawler and Wolverine defend Rogue who is still unconscious. The Prime Sentinels attack the Blackbird causing it to crash. They escape the plane in a Porsche.
Cable, Cyclops, and Jean are being attacked by an army of human sentinels, but teamwork is a beautiful thing. You don't screw with the Summers!
Cyclops' license plate reads SL1M. Maybe a Stan Lee homage? Like Stan is the number 1 man/mutant?
They escape the toasters and Jean brings them all to safety as the car explodes in the background. Epic.
Roberto has been practicing using his powers. His mother tells them to go with the Sentinels.
Sinister tells Bastion that Dr. Cooper has let Magneto escape. Magneto sends out a large electromagnetic wave that goes all over Earth, disabling all types of machines including the sentinels. “Enough”
That Spider-Man is the same one from the Spider-Man Animated Series that debuted in 1994. Hopefully, Christopher Daniel Barnes will be back as the voice if we see Spidey again!
Professor Xavier arrives at the mansion. “To me, my X-Men.”
