X-Men 97 Episode 7 Easter Eggs & Breakdown
The episode opens with Gambit's funeral. Nightcrawler delivers his eulogy, while the rain pours like all of the tears on his friends' faces. Nightcrawler calls Gambit a hero.
Wolverine, Morph, Jubilee, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, and others are there. Rogue is absent. Jubilee is angry that Rogue isn't there. Wolverine tells her grief is a lonely war.
Nightcrawler says Rogue is not just battling grief. After what they saw in Genosha, Jubilee should be afraid of what Rogue might do.
Rogue attacks a military base that is known for imprisoning mutants. During the fight she not only does the superhero landing pose but she also does an anime kick. But old school fans will recognize this as her character moves in the 1998 game X-Men vs. Street Fighter/Marvel vs. Capcom 2!
The soldiers watch as Rogue destroys tanks. General Thaddeus Ross (Thunderbolt Ross) seems unconcerned. After all, they are standing in a place built to hold the Hulk.
Jokes on him, Rogue makes it inside and demands to know where Henry Gyrich and Bolivar Trask are.
Scott is trying to get more aid from President Kelly to help the Mutants in Genosha. He mentions that Val Cooper is still missing. Kelly tells him he can't be seen giving special treatment to mutants. He also tells Scott people are afraid this attack has triggered a war between humans and mutants.
The team lands in Genosha to help with the cleanup. Roberto is also joining them. Beast quotes Mister Rogers– look for the helpers.
Beast goes to help in the medical tent. He speaks with Amelia Voght. She is a nurse with the ability to turn matter into vapor.
Trish Tilby arrives to report on what is happening in Genosha.
Rogue arrives at a cabin in the mountains. Outside is a familiar motorcycle. Captain America, Steve Rogers, tells her to stand down.
Cap is also trying to use Gyrich to get his hands on Trask. He tells her Gyrich was transferred out of Rikers but someone in the UN.
OZT is on the monitors. It stands for Operation Zero Tolerance, a program headed up by the government and the sinister Bastion with plans to exterminate all mutants. Cap has learned Gyrich was transferred to a facility in Mexico. Rogue wants to go after him now but Cap has to wait for the go-ahead. She throws his shield and leaves.
Back on Genosha, Roberto and Jubilee talk about the fight and the threat of war. Roberto still hasn't told his family that he is a mutant.
The mutants have set up a memorial near the fallen heads of the Xavier and Magneto statues. There is a picture of Leech and Callisto.
Rogue arrives in Mexico. It seems that Gyrich was waiting for her. He tells her doesn't know where Trask is and that what is coming, none of them will be able to face. Rogue uses her powers to see his memories.
Cyclops and Jean are working to clear rubble. She senses another telepath, someone has survived– Emma Frost. Her diamond mutation protected her from being severely hurt. Cyclops is sad it wasn't Madelyne.
Morph calls them back to the ship. Trask is on the comms, he tells them that Mr. Sinister is the one behind the attack. He claims he didn't know helping Sinister would lead to a mutant massacre. They don't believe him.
Trask invites them to come to the UN Peace Legion in Madripoor (yes that Madripoor, seen in the MCU in Falcon and the Winter Soldier and mentioned in Moonknight). He wants them to see the horrifying face of their future.
Roberto and Jubilee go visit his mother. She knew that he was a mutant and was waiting for him to share his secret. Although she doesn't seem to care she actually is concerned about their company and wants him to be discreet.
Nightcrawler finds Rogue. How are you feeling sister? Yes, Mystique is Kurt's mother.
Bastion kills Gyrich.
The X-Men arrive in Madripoor. Trask cleared the way for them using sleeping gas. Inside the facility, robots are being made. A man is heard saying Asimov's law be damned. Issac Asimov had three laws of robotics: A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
Rogue is also there. She tells them the soldiers are wearing the same outfits as the ones guarding Gyrich– OZT.
Morph sees Trask, calls him poor man's Oppenheimer. They realize Sinister is building a new type of Sentinel, worse than what they saw in Genosha.
Rogue kills Trask…or does she? Trask survives his fall off the building thanks to the same techno-organic virus that Sinister infected baby Nathan with.
He's turned into a Human Sentinel. Prime Sentinel Protocol Activated. They battle with Prime Bolivar but are easily defeated. Cable shows up to rescue them. Jean realizes it's Nathan. He warns them that Sinister is working for someone worse and that they need to stop him. That someone is Bastion.
Outside you can spot Stark Industries, Hammer Industries, and Roxxon on the buildings. Da Costa (Roberto's family) also has a building here.
Sinister and Bastion are watching a feed from Shi'ar about Xavier's wedding.
Bastion has Magneto. Bastion is voiced by Theo James.
