Daredevil is finally coming home to the MCU and we could not be more excited. Daredevil himself, Charlie Cox, took a break from filming Daredevil: Born Again to take the stage at Awesome Con 2024 to talk all things Daredevil. From She-Hulk to Spider-Man, and reuniting with his former co-stars, Charlie shared all he could– legally speaking of course!
Charlie Cox Talks Daredevil – Awesome Con 2024
After Netflix canceled Daredevil in 2018, we weren't sure we would ever get to see Charlie Cox don the infamous suit again. Thankfully, Disney+ and Marvel Studios announced that Matt Murdock would return in Daredevil: Born Again. The highly anticipated show is set to premiere in 2025 and everyone, myself included, cannot wait to see what happens and who shows up to play in Hell's Kitchen.
Taking a break for filming, Charlie Cox took the stage at Awesome Con this past weekend to answer questions about his character. Charlie talked about being a lawyer to Peter Parker and having a zip code fling with Jenn Walters plus reuniting with friends Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page) and Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson).
Which characters in the MCU would you want to see Daredevil meet?
Charlie: I have to be really careful here because anything I say is reported like it's the word of God. You know, I love everything those guys have been doing and there's a few characters that I would love to have some interaction with. A lot of them are obvious, but I have no idea if they have any of those [planned] for me or not. But I'm in the door now at least you know what I mean? I'm in the room so that's good…
I think it would be cool if I was the lawyer for all three of them [Spider-Man].
On Foggy and Karen Joining Daredevil Born Again
Charlie: It was pretty heartbreaking when they weren't around initially. When we came back to filming and they made some changes, it was clear that Foggy and Karen are kind of the heartbeat of our show. So it was really special to have them back. I know there's been photos, some set photos that came out and I can talk about it because it's on the internet, but it was really sweet to have some scenes together again.
Challenging Moments playing Daredevil:
Charlie: There's a lot of stuff that's physically challenging. The fight scenes in general can be really long and cold. You know we typically always used to shoot on rooftops in winter and it would get really cold. I think that prison fight scene in three, that was really hard. It was like three days of fighting and stuff.
Then there's just a lot of scenes that when you read them, you know that they feel iconic– that the fans are gonna really respond. I feel a bit of pressure when those scenes present themselves, like [when] I have scenes with Vincent D'Onofrio and stuff. I just know that these are the kinds of moments that the fans are going to love. And so it's really important…they feel more important than other scenes, maybe.
On Playing Matt Murdock and Relating To Him
Charlie: One thing I love about playing Matt Murdock is he's so unafraid to be completely honest with people. He doesn't people please. Which is not me at all, I'm a total people pleaser. Whereas Matt is not and I admire this about him, that he tells people exactly how he feels and he's not afraid of them not liking what he has to say. That's something that [is very] different but it means that when I'm acting, I get to enjoy that! I get to enjoy what it feels like to be someone who, and I don't mean it in an offensive way. But I do think that it's really amazing to be around someone when they are that polished, that rigorously honest. We are similar. I think I'm quite a positive person. I tend to kind of really enjoy life and I think Matt does as well but he's a burden obviously, carries rocks with him everywhere he goes. But he has a positive outlook, you know, believes things will unfold into goodness and I think I'm like that.
Love Interests: She-Hulk vs Elektra
Charlie: How they wrote the Matt/Elektra stuff, I just felt it really encapsulated like your college crazy girlfriends. Even when you get older and you look back on that time and you're like wow! And when they show up there's still a part of you that's like let's do it again. It is still that kind of addiction to the craziness! Just me? (Laughs)
Jenn was a surprise kind of I mean, we really didn't get a chance to explore it marginally. Hopefully, maybe one day we'll get an opportunity to do more stuff together because I absolutely loved working with Tatiana. She's an incredible actor. But that felt like a fling outside of your zip code. When I was thinking about doing that show, I was wondering well Matt is typically more heavy, burdened, and doesn't really go on vacation. He's not that guy. But I was thinking it's one of those things where he's in New York, he's [on] the grind, he's trying to solve crime by himself. But then he has to go to LA and when he's in LA he just has a good time. We did the walk of shame. It's so funny, really divides people, because some people loved it and thought it was really funny and very Daredevil and very enjoyable and other people get really cross about it. You know? It's really funny.
