Real heroes come in all sizes. I'm excited that Ant-Man and The Wasp is coming to theaters July 6th 2018! I've been waiting for this team up since that stinger scene with Hope and The Wasp suit. But before we jump back into the quantum realm, it's time to get to know more about our heroes. I picked 8 comics to read before Ant-Man and The Wasp.
The Beginning
“Tales to Astonish” #27 (1962)
This is the debut of Hank Pym and what I would call an Ant-Man pilot. This was a new style and perspective for the comics. And at first many believed this would be just another one-off issue. But The Man in the Ant-Hill returned.
“Tales to Astonish” #35 (1962)
Eight issues later sees Hank Pym's return. This is also the first time we see him in the familiar red-and-black suit with silver helmet.
Avengers Origins: Ant-Man & the Wasp (2013) #1
Scientist Hank Pym meets Janet Van Dyne. This story tells how the two fell in love and became the powerhouse couple behind Ant-Man and the Wasp.
Founding Members of the Avengers
“Avengers” #1 (1963)
What a lot of MCU fans don't realize is that Ant-Man and The Wasp were founding members of the Avengers. They were present right from the beginning, alongside our favorites like Thor and Hulk.
Ant-Man & Hawkeye in Avengers (1963) #223
Does that image of Ant-Man and Hawkeye look familiar? Yep, that was another from the comic book pages to the big screen moments in Captain America: Civil War. Hawkeyes and Ant-Man team up to take down The Taskmaster once and for all.
Scott Lang
“Marvel Premiere” #47-48 (1979)
Scott Lang is the Ant-Man we all know and love from the MCU. This is the first time he is introduced to Marvel fans. Scott was looking for a second chance. He wanted to be a hero and save the life of Cassie his daughter. He put his burglarizing skills to good use when he stole Hank Pym's old Ant-Man suit in order to save the only doctor who could treat his dying daughter.
Second-Chance Man in Ant-Man (2015) #1
Scott has been to prison, got divorced, and yes even died but Superior Iron Man needs him. So this is his time to shine and be the hero he's always wanted to be.

I remember sneaking my brother’s comics to read when I was growing up. I don’t know why I didn’t buy my own. I haven’t read a comic book in years and I’d love to catch up and read all the ones you suggest.

I used to be a big comic fan. Of course, I was reading The Archies, but hey. These look exciting and thrilling!

We don’t read comic books in our household anymore. I do know couple of guys who still enjoy their comic books and discuss them all the time. They would enjoy reading this post so will share with them.

We have missed a few Avengers movies but his one looks like a lot of fun and we have to learn about these heros. My son will have a lot of time soon so we will look for this in July.

I have ever been into comic books, probably why I never know any background about the Marvel movies. My youngest brother used to read them and is into the Marvel movies so he might enjoy these.

When I was a kid, we didn’t have TV. The only media form of entertainment for me is reading comics!

Hubby and I were just talking about this and we are totally looking forward not just the Antman but for the Wasp too! He could not believe the series as he wasn’t an oroginal heroes fanatic when he was young. I definitely need to show him these comic reads!

Ok so I call myself a huge Marvel fan, but have never read the comics. My son has and fills me in on the details. I have watched every single movie and will not miss one. But his reminds me of the history and the place where it all started and the great importance to honor it.
