Summer vacation is here. Finally. I mean could it have taken any longer? Sure we had a lot of snow days but it seemed like the school year would not end. Hmm I think I might even be a tad more thrilled about it than the kiddos. Some parents dread Summer, all the noise noise noise noise! Yes the kids are home, chaos ensues, and we are starting this summer off with a broken ballerina ankle. Poor kid. I'll update on that later after our followup. Regardless of all that insanity, I LOVE Summer Break.
1. 8:00am
That might not seem like a significant time but if you're a parent you know that sleeping in changes drastically after kids. I use to love 10:30am but now, if I see 8:00 on my bedside clock then I am a happy girl.
2. Not Packing Lunches
It's exhausting coming up with new lunch ideas and fun presentations. We all blog, instagram, and tweet out our special lunches but lets be real some days it's just PB&J with a banana and carrots.
3. Attire
Do I feel like putting on real clothes today? Nope? Well then jammies it is. After all who cares what you're wearing when you're just hanging out at the house.
4. Half the Laundry
I don't know about your kids but my son comes home covered in his day. I mean whatever happened throughout his day ends up on his clothes. At home I can keep him mostly clean…mostly.
5. No Schedule
Quick ask me where I have to be Monday at 4? Wherever I want to be! Ah that feels great to say.
6. Bye Bye Sports
I love my kids' being involved in sports. Staying active is important. However, I love the break that Summer allows. My nights and weekends are once again MY nights and weekends.
7. Impromptu Trips
Going hand in hand with the no schedule point is this one. I love being spontaneous. School kinda puts a damper on it. But during the Summer if I want to jump in the truck and head down south I can or wherever else our imagination and gas tank take us.
8. Less Stress
Might seem counter to what most parents feel about Summer. But for me without the schedules, sports, extra laundry, lunch packing, and being able to wakeup when I want to it sets my day up to be less stressful.
9. Time with the kiddos
Okay here is the lovey part- I love the extra cuddles and time I get to spend with the kids. Having them around is the best, even when it's not it is the best.
10. Fun
Above all we have a lot of FUN. I try to have fun all year but there is something extra special about FUN you don't have to recover from the next day when you wake up early for school!
What is your favorite thing about Summer?
My kids sleeping habits don’t change over the summer and I’m okay with that. I don’t want them to get used to sleeping late and then have to readjust only two months later.
The kids do NOT sleep in lol But I do so that makes me happy and they get extra time to play in their rooms without the other one to “bother” them!
Those all sound like wonderful reasons to me too! We homeschool, so I am thankful that our year is done and we have more of a free schedule. Have a great summer!

I always look forward to the summer too! It gives the kids (and me) a much needed break from our school day routine and lets us have some spontaneous fun! I’m usually just as excited for school to start back up after a couple months too! lol
I hope the laundry thing happens in my house as well. It usually is crazy.
My favorite thing about summer is spending time with my kiddos and not having to rush to do work and worry about our schedule being exact!
I don’t have kids in the house anymore, but I love not having to pack on the layers of clothes that we wear in the winter. It’s so nice to run out without having to throw on a jacket.
Yes, I felt the same way when our kids were still at home! Now summer is just nice because it stays light out so much longer.
Two more weeks and then we can officially call it summer.
I am looking forward to so many things…can we have a fire and make smores ever night?
I think so.
Can we sleep in until noon… not likely but I can dream right?
Summer is fun. Our plans are enjoy and go with the flow.

Ah summertime. My favorite time of year. I love keeping things simple in the summer-slower pace of life is so relaxing!
We live near the Jersey shore. I can’t wait for all of our beach trips 🙂
My favorite thing is having no schedule. I can do whatever I want, whenever I want.
LOL I want this schedule because summer for me is the same but I love my life and all I am blessed with.
I love summers too! Seriously but I also love to schedule play dates and stay busy with my kiddos. I am kid free tonight and cannot wait to sleep in until 9!!!
I totally agree – summer is so much fun. We really enjoy the freedom that summer brings.
I just love lazy beach days and lots of good books on the deck! IT’s the only time I can relax really!

Summers are so awesome! Especially when you live in an area where winters are long and hard. The best part…not having to wake up so early in the morning…EVERY DAY! Love that!

Summer break means more relaxed! Even though I work during the summer I do not feel as rushed with the kids.
There is seriously so much to love about summer, but my favorite things are probably that I get to turn off the early morning alarm on my phone AND I get to run outside instead of on my treadmill.
