I am convinced coconuts must have a hidden cape inside their husks. If you haven't heard about Coconut Oil yet I would be surprised. This little guy is popping up all over the place from the grocery store to Pinterest and with good reason. Coconut oil has 100s of uses! Seriously, is there anything it can't do?
Recently, I started training for a 5K. Aside from my legs despising me, my skin hasn't been too happy either. When I work out or sweat a lot I get hives. Gross I know! Not sure what it means, I think I might be weird since I seem to be allergic to myself. But the bottom line is, it's itchy and not fun. My doctor has suggested and prescribed medicines that help with the itch but are very toxic and can only be used in small amounts. Not helpful and I'm not a fan of toxic meds, so when my rash came back I decided to skip the pharmacy and head to my pantry.
I mentioned Coconut Oil in a previous post about Natural Remedies, toting it's amazing diaper rash clearing abilities. My theory was if it helped with diaper rash then it too could help clear up my rash. It worked beautifully and I didn't have to be concerned about how much I put on my skin! I was so excited about how well it worked on me I had to share it with all of you.
This is by no means an extensive list but I wanted you to know at least some of the amazing benefits of having coconut oil on hand.
- Cooking: boosts immune systems, metabolism, good for a healthy heart, regulates blood sugar, and more!
- Substitute for butter or other oils
- Eczema
- Athlete's Foot
- Rashes: such as bacterial, yeast, and even viral
- Lice (combined with Apple Cider Vinegar)
- Ear Mites in Cats
- Make your own lotion, deodorant, or conditioner for your hair
- and more!
Have you used Coconut Oil before?

I’d like to explore more of the non-food related coconut oil uses! I think that it’s so neat that it can be used for so many things!

I have actually never used coconut oil before, but I do believe that I may start! I have been leaning towards more natural remedies for a lot of aliments in our household. Thanks for sharing!

Yes – I LOVE to cook with coconut oil. Eggs in coconut oil are amazing. I’ve made a hand scrub with coconut oil but that is about as far as my experimentation has gone.

I like to take Coconut oil as a supplement while running. It keeps inflammation or aches to a minimum. Our family uses it for so many things. Thanks for the post!
